Featured Pipeline Projects

Obsidian has a highly experienced pipeline team who have dedicated their careers to designing pipelines across Canada and into the United States. The Obsidian team has successfully completed hundreds of pipeline projects with varying scopes which include:

  • Sizes ranging from NPS 2 to NPS 48

  • Lengths up to 700km

  • Products such as sweet/ sour gas, multi-phase emulsion, produced water, HVP, LVP, helium and CO2.

  • Associated facilities such as LACTs, pump stations, meter stations and pigging assemblies.

NGL NORTH PIPELINES

Obsidian completed the detailed design, procurement and provided construction management support for approximately 130km of NPS 16, 12, 8, 6, and 3 HVP and LVP pipelines in Northern Alberta and through the Industrial Heartland.

This pipeline program included LACT installations, tie-ins to several owner facilities, modification and retrofit of existing pipeline infrastructure (above and below grade), the installation of multiple pipelines in common ditch, pigging facilities, and interfacing for tie-in with several third parties.

PIPESTONE EXPANSION NORTH

Obsidian completed the detailed design work for the Pipestone Gas Gathering System (GGS) expansion that consisted of approximately 60 KM of NPS 8, 10, and 12 sour gas pipelines, some installed in common trenches.

The GGS expansion pipelines were constructed to transport additional sour product volumes from various new and existing producer tie-ins. These new pipelines, along with several upgrades to the existing system, more than doubled the pipeline capacity into the Pipestone Plant.

Approximately 30 new ESDV riser sites were designed and constructed, along with new pig trap facilities, and modifications to existing riser sites.

CLIENT PIPELINE PROGRAMS

Obsidian is engaged with various clients to complete “high volume“ pipeline programs.

These programs currently span over 4 years with over 30 pipeline projects completed within Northeast British Columbia, and over 40 pipeline projects completed within Central Alberta.

Projects include lengths ranging from 500 m to 20 km of NPS 2 - 20, with up to 11 lines being installed in a common ditch. Pipeline projects convey a variety of products such as sour production gas, sweet fuel gas, produced water, HVP (C3+) and LVP (C5+).
